SATURDAY WAS A TREAT. more to come later, but for now, birthday flowers – tommy continued the tradition, buying enough flowers to fill every vase we own.

still in progress :: the nursery

nursery_wip2

LATELY WHEN I’VE CHECKED IN ON WREN first thing in the morning she’s been quietly watching the light on the wall. i’ve been meaning to buy her this mobile and paint something on her wall for months, and have been putting it off for no good reason. now that she’s been actively staring at a blank wall, it’s time. since we live in earthquake country hanging pictures is not an option, instead a few birds in flight seemed fitting. not sure yet what type of bird, wrens would be cute but predictable, maybe? how about a few house finches, sparrows, or a great big barn owl swooping in on a little mouse…maybe not. the little monster {numpy} is not part of the plan, but thought it would be funny to see what he would look like peering over the crib. i’m really amused by him.

we ordered a glider for her room last week. i still can’t believe she’s six months and we’re just now getting one…well, i can believe it because she needed a crib before i needed a glider and she’s survived this long without the luxury of being rocked to sleep. i really don’t like the look of gliders but we got it on sale so i can’t complain. i would love to sew a cover for it, and i have a sewing machine, but don’t know how to sew other than a straight line. kind of a problem, but i’m determined to figure this out most likely with lots of help from knowledgeable family and friends.

making a home :: the patio

patio

cleaning the patio has been on my to-do list since october of last year – basically, when i was too big to bend over. the petunias and herbs were my mother’s day present, and now that wren is finally taking longer naps, i found a few moments to freshen up the patio.

the fragrance of wet soil and herbs toasting in the sun, patio clean and tidy…it feels nice getting back into the simplest of housekeeping tasks.

work in progress :: nursery

internet, i promise this site hasn’t turned into a baby blog, not entirely, well maybe around 87% baby.

wren’s nursery is far from complete, but we’re close. so close it’s driving me bonkers. originally it was my office {no ‘before’ photos, can you believe that??? i can’t believe it myself – i had an awesome yellow office with one wall dedicated to my favorite pieces of art, a piece by my talented bud wendy, a few by matt cipov, prints of my fav quilts of gee’s bend, some of my work… anyway i digress…}.back in december tommy worked on her room while I stood in the doorway 8 months pregnant pointing at spots he missed, complaining about my foot cramps, while eating homemade granola by-the-bucket. he did an amazing job – as usual – boy, i got myself a good guy. he even repainted my dresser from when i was a kid. look amazing! we still need to finish updating the hardware on it {knobs from anthropologie – cute cute cute}. other to-do’s before i share ‘after’ photos: bedding for her crib, purchase and hang new artwork, put up shelving, new lighting, new rug, hopefully buy a rocker. eh, might be awhile before i post an ‘after’ picture.

do you see faces in the walls?

there are quite a few in these shots. use your imagination.

i’m back

051706

it’s been awhile.

above is the red – the most wonderful red – hallway at our new place. just beyond the hallway is the living room at the right and the kitchen at the left. we’re still working on the kitchen and the other rooms so it will be a few weeks until i show before and after pictures. lots of painting…lots of organizing (it’s a small space so we have to be creative!)…our to-do list is outrageous.

taking a month off from work really did wreak havoc to my sanity. i’m still playing catch-up while adjusting to my new computer – i finally have an imac! unfortunately, i’m without all my typefaces from the pc so it’s been a pain sifting through which typefaces i need and can afford at this point in time. with tommy’s help i did manage to get two new sites up: bridalhairdesign.com and troydavisart.com.

that’s about it for now. i should have more to share in a few days. also, a great big HELLO to steve way out there in the middle of nowhere! we hope you are safe and are doing well!

things i’ll miss about this place…

032306

the view of the mountains, birds playing in the pepper tree early in the morning, the baby hummingbirds, the gas stove and the large office, the window in the bathroom and the two windows in the kitchen.

things i’ll love about the new place…the washer, dryer, and dishwasher, the large patio, the vaulted ceiling, the living room with the fire place, it’s our first home

tomorrow we sign the paperwork for our first home. after resigning to the fact that we would never have a place of our own in this valley, the good Lord has blessed us with the opportunity to buy tommy’s brother’s condo. in fifteen days, my husband will be on the road with his brother to iowa, helping him move. it’s a bit strange to think that i’ll be here, keys in hand, walking in alone to our new home, soaking in this unbelievable reality. a part of me thinks i’ll probably cry when i first walk in – i’m really not an emotional person but this entire venture is so overwhelming – nine years of renting would probably make any new homeowner cry.

while tommy is on the road, i’ll be working with his parents on redoing the kitchen. my first project as a homeowner! there’s a lot of work to do, but i’m determined to get it done by the time he returns.

these next few weeks will probably go by in a blur. i still have several deadlines to meet and an entire apartment to pack! but before i put everything away, i’ll be taking pictures of our current apartment for memory’s sake. i don’t want to forget where we came from, as crummy as this place was at times, i’m still in love with this apartment.

two cups for coffee. one cup in the morning, and one in the afternoon. five glasses for water, a sixth for a mid-morning protein shake. the seventh is tommy’s one and only glass.
