LAST WEEK WE SPENT THREE DAYS AT THE BEACH for our annual church retreat. i believe it’s been our 11th or 12th year doing this, and we have so much fun every year. it was gloomy and cold the first two days – just how i like it – and a relief since it’s been very hot at home. the sun finally made an appearance on our last day, just in time for the kids to dig in the sand and play in the ocean. i mostly took photographs of waves and scenery, and virtually zero detailed shots of the weekend. i wish i had taken more. i suppose it just shows, with honesty, how i spent most of my time – looking at the horizon.

I’VE BEEN MEANING TO WRITE ABOUT WREN’S FIRST TRIP to disneyland for almost three months now. busy momma! back in april we took our very first family vacation together AND it was wren’s first time at the happiest place on earth. the last time tommy and i went, we stayed for four days back in 2005 {much too long ago!} see here, here, here, and here. this time we stayed for five days and even met up with our good friends. now, you may think we are crazy for spending five days at disneyland – i initially thought it would be crazy too – but it was well worth it! everything was so new to wren that she was completely overwhelmed the first two days. it wasn’t until the third day, after seeing the excitement of her little friends, that she really got into it. we had SO MUCH FUN and were genuinely sad to go home. our vacation was pure magic and we’re already planning for another trip next year.

just a few photo notes: i would have paid BIG money to have every person get out of the shot when tommy and wren walked through the castle for the first time. and the photo of wren running away from pluto still cracks us up – all she wanted was to meet pluto but panicked the moment she went up to him. he is a pretty big dog, after all. and the last photo – that’s what we came back to in our hotel room at the end of every day. housekeeping even added pink bear to the mix. how cute is that? disney magic.

small things i regret: not getting out to see LA. we had so much fun at disneyland, we just didn’t have enough time to venture out and explore. next time, though! we forgot to buy wren her first pair of mouse ears…another one for next time. and we forgot to ask our friends to take our family picture. another reason for us to hurry up and save, save, save for the next trip.

root beer floats
kiddos swimming and having so much fun
watching fireworks in our car and wren grabbing my face to whisper,
“this is so cool, mommy.”

we had a great fourth!

GRANDMA’S TREASURES

grandmatreasures

MY GRANDPA’S BIRTHDAY WAS A FEW WEEKS AGO and my family gathered to spend the day with him. we helped him go through most of my grandma’s belongings, and what we found was a HUGE collection of treasures. she saved everything! birthday cards, christmas cards, love notes to grandpa, her report cards from school, my grandpa’s passport from the 40’s, even her children’s first lost teeth. if only i was able to photograph everything we found, but it would have taken hours. these were just a few things i was able to capture. it was fun finding photos of my grandpa as a teenager – what a handsome kid. what do you think about that canica certificate? pretty funny!
